Stolen from [info]kestrellan

1) What author do you own the most books by?
If we're counting graphic novels, then Neil Gaiman, definitely. I have the complete Sandman and most of his books. If not, then probably JK Rowling, I'm not a fan of series that go too far past 7 books.

2) What book do you own the most copies of?
I have multiple copies of Harry Potter 1-4, due to a mix up at a carboot sale and a well-meaning relative. :)

3) Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions?
Not really, I'm not elitist when it comes to language, Chomsky can bite my arse!

4) What fictional character are you secretly in love with?
None really, I'm more likely to want to pat them on the head or want to be their friend. :D But if I had to choose, Jaybird from Sorceress, by Celia Rees.

5) What book have you read the most times in your life (excluding picture books read to children; i.e., Goodnight Moon does not count)?
The Narnia series, I think. They're actually falling apart at this point!

6) What was your favorite book when you were ten years old?
Narnia? Maybe Matilda? I honestly can't remember.

7) What is the worst book you've read in the past year?
Twilight. I got 30 pages in and gave up.

8) What is the best book you've read in the past year?
The Handmaid's Tale was very interesting, but I read Watchmen in the last 12 months, which blew my mind.

9) If you could force everyone you tagged to read one book, what would it be?
American Gods, by Neil Gaiman. It's long but worth it.

10) Who deserves to win the next Nobel Prize for Literature?
"NEIL GAIMAN. Cos I am a raging fangirl." I agree with
[info]kestrellan and [info]hikari_datenshi on this. He deserves it.

11) What book would you most like to see made into a movie?
The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness would be interesting, Renn is a great character, and I adore Wolf!

12) What book would you least like to see made into a movie?
Sandman. It can't be done. I don't care that LotR and Watchmen were good, this isn't the same.

13) Describe your weirdest dream involving a writer, book, or literary character.
Snape chasing me down the street and through a forest to kill me?

14) What is the most lowbrow book you've read as an adult?
Dan Brown probably, but I don't really mind them because I know nothing about cryptology.

15) What is the most difficult book you've ever read?
Anything by Arthur C Clarke, Phillip K Dick or Isaac Asimov. I love hard scifi, but these people are too much for me.

16) What is the most obscure Shakespeare play you've seen?
I've never seen a play by Shakepeare!

17) Do you prefer the French or the Russians?
The French, Le Petit Prince is beautiful, and L'Etranger was haunting.

18) Roth or Updike?
Who?

19) David Sedaris or Dave Eggers?
I repeat, who?

20) Shakespeare, Milton, or Chaucer?
Shakespeare, I've not really read Milton, and Chaucer bores me.

21) Austen or Eliot?
Never read either. I prefer the Bronte sisters.

22) What is the biggest or most embarrassing gap in your reading?
If it's not scifi or fantasy, I probably haven't read it, which makes me feel uncultured.

23) What is your favorite novel?
The Abhorsen series by Garth Nix, American Gods by Neil Gaiman and Good Omens by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

24) Play?
Do musicals count? f so, Les Miserables.

25) Poem?
I really like The Faery Rede, by Gaiman (again), and The Stolen Child by Yeats. I'm a sucker for the sidhe! Also, When I Am Old I Shall Wear Purple, can't remember the author.

26) Essay?
I don't really read them, but The Complex and Terrifiying Reality of Star Wars Fans, by Andrey Summers. It's so true!

27) Short story?
Joy and Sorrow by Garth Nix. It has a wonderful feel to it, all melancholy.

28) Work of nonfiction?
Geisha of Gion, which is what Memoirs of a Geisha was based on. Ms Iwasaki is a charismatic author, and you can feel her passion for dancing in every word.

29) Who is your favorite writer?
Neil Gaiman, definitely. He changed the way I see the world, and no, that's not just a saying.

30) Who is the most overrated writer alive today?
"MEYER, lawl." - I agree with this answer. Me too!

31) What is your desert island book?
Pirates, by Celia Rees. It's chunky and exciting. And has female pirates, which is awesome.

32) Who is your favorite critic or scholar?
I have no idea.

33) Who is your favorite philosopher?
Simone de Beauvoir, mainly because she was the first proper female philosopher. And she said that you are not born a man or a woman, you are made.

34) Who is your favorite public intellectual?
"Stephen Fryyyyy" - this is a good answer, I'm gonna stick with that. <-----This is also my answer. Fry, the National Treasure!

35) And... what are you reading right now?
The Obsidian Age, A JLA comic.

Jaybird from Sorceress, by Celia Rees.
Omg, I'd forgotten this! I seriously want to read Witch Child and Sorceress again, they were great.

The Narnia series, I think. They're actually falling apart at this point!
I think I've read mine about 3 times, which isn't overmuch, I don't think, but a couple of them are already falling apart D: (Still, it's a pretty boxset, so I'm still fond of them)

but I read Watchmen in the last 12 months, which blew my mind.
I'm currently reading it now. It is in the process of blowing my mind.

I've never seen a play by Shakepeare!
*horrified gasp* Woman! This needs to be rectified!

31) What is your desert island book?
Pirates, by Celia Rees. It's chunky and exciting. And has female pirates, which is awesome.

Agh, again thank you for reminding me of this author! I loved this book, too. Pirates! You can't go wrong with pirates.

Celia Rees is a wonderful author, and I love her characters so very much!

I've read my Narnia books at least 10 times, and they've survived two house moves, so I think I got my money's worth.

It is a really good comic, isn't it?

I know I know! I don't really get the chance to go to the theatre, but I have read some of his plays and I really like Romeo and Juliet.

And a demon ship too, it's a great book.
